The Town of Farmville Purchasing Department operates out of a 10,000 sq. ft. central warehouse and utilizes a 41,000 sq. ft. yard to stock materials for electric, water, and sewer utilities as well as various supplies for all other municipal departments. The warehouse currently stocks 1102 items at a total inventory value in excess of $250,000. The Purchasing Department is made up of a Support Services Director and a Warehouse Assistant. The Director purchases materials and supplies for the warehouse as well as makes purchases of vehicles, equipment and supplies for all departments within the municipality using competitive bidding practices. The Warehouse Assistant assists with the operation of the central warehouse.
Under the direction of the Support Services Director, the Town of Farmville Fleet Maintenance Garage maintains over 100 vehicles and equipment in a 5400 sq. ft. garage facility. Work is performed by three fleet maintenance mechanics on a variety of municipal vehicles and equipment ranging from Police cruisers, pickup trucks, dump trucks, backhoes and other heavy equipment, tractors, lawn equipment, as well as electric, water, and sewer utility vehicles and equipment.
