Business in Farmville

The Town of Farmville has its roots in agriculture but has grown and moved with the times. It is an area rich in tradition, boasting many homes and businesses that are on the National Register of Historic Places. But it also is a thriving community that has evolved and prospered with the rapid growth of the Pitt County region. Today, Farmville has about 4,800 citizens.

Ideally located on the Raleigh-Greenville Corridor abutting Interstate 587, Farmville is centrally located between several mid-size cities: Greenville, Wilson, Kinston, Goldsboro, and Rocky Mount. Situated in western Pitt County in the Coastal Plain region of North Carolina, the residents and businesses of Farmville enjoy close proximity to I-95 and Raleigh.

The community also is within two hours of three deepwater ports. Farmville is within 20 minutes of the Pitt-Greenville Airport (PGV) and approximately 60 minutes from the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU).

Farmville Economic Development Council

Farmville has both shared in the economic prosperity of the county and developed its own prosperity through entrepreneurial spirit and ingenuity. The Farmville Economic Development Council (EDC), which was established in 1952, has been a leader in Pitt County as it aggressively works to create and maintain a business-friendly atmosphere.

The EDC along with the Farmville Chamber of Commerce and the Farmville Downtown Partnership proactively work to recruit new business and industry, and then put a high priority on supporting those companies once they are established in the community. With its talented workforce and pro-business atmosphere, Farmville makes good economic sense for businesses and industries looking to relocate.

Downtown Partnership

Farmville’s proactive Downtown Partnership, which is a 501c(3), works to enhance the central business district and promote Main Street. The Partnership sponsors a variety of downtown promotions that attract people to Main Street and enhance the quality of life in Farmville.

Business Environment

In 1956, visionary civic leaders in Farmville created the Economic Development Council (EDC), one of the first in the state. Today, the organization, an incorporated 501c6 organized and incorporated under NC law, carries on the tradition of visionary leadership.
